Stilnovo Lighting: Saliscendi
The first product in our Product Focus Series is the Saliscendi Suspension Lamp designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and produced by Stilnovo Lighting.
Stilnovo Lighting
Stilnovo Lighting was established in Milan in 1946. In 1949, brothers Bruno and Paolo Gatta opened “Stilnovo Srl”, with a share capital of 400,000 Italian Lire. Over the years the brand wins acclaim and new sites are created. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed two Saliscendi light fixtures for the new Milan Chamber of Commerce in 1957, a pivotal moment for the company. By the 1960s the brand employed high profile designers such as; BBPR, Joe Colombo, Angelo Mangiarotti, Ettore Sottsass, Marcello Pietrantoni, Roberto Lucci, Danilo and Corrado Aroldi and Giancarlo Iliprandi. Throughout the following decades innovative lighting products were designed and recognised for their ingenuity in lighting museums. In 2019, the Linea Light Group acquired Stilnovo, with the aim of relaunching the brand and expanding it to a global, modern reach.
Saliscendi
The Saliscendi was originally designed in 1957 and the following year two unique lamps were constructed for the Milan Chamber of Commerce. The modern day Saliscendi is an adjustable dual-emission metal lamp re-engineered with dimmable LED light sources. Designed to perfectly modulate light, it features a luminous body and reflective discs. These elements travel in the opposite direction and have adjustable heights, this results in customisable levels of diffusion for direct or indirect light.
Specifications
The Saliscendi features a sleek metal body painted in glossy grey-white, ruby red or grass green finishes, PMMA diffusers and a double topLED 2700K dimmable light source. The two-tone reflecting parabolic diffuser is white on the interior and painted with the same finish as the lamp body on the exterior. A solid handle for raising/lowering the metal lamp is included along with metal wire casing, acetal resin (POM) pulleys and black support cables/conductors.
